How to change your life in 5 minutes

You’re doing it wrong

We have a tendency to set big goals. Not that having big goals is bad, but sometimes we go too big. We get inspired after reading books like The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone. We tell ourselves we should be thinking bigger. Instead of setting more attainable goals, like making an extra $100 a month, instead we shoot for $1,000.

And when it doesn’t happen…

we usually give up.

When we don’t accomplish the goals we set out to do, we eventually stop dreaming completely. We get scared. We avoid the disappointment. And we go on living; letting life happen to us, rather than for us.

There’s a better way…

Think small.

Having a vision for your life is great. It’s inspiring. It’s the stuff people post about on social media and what most gurus preach at you through their content.

But it can be overwhelming. When your output isn’t consistently aligned with your vision, you often give up.

Focus on the next 5-minutes

Here’s the trick, shift away from what you want to accomplish this year, this month, this week or even today.

Instead, what can you do in the next 5-minutes that’s awesome? Are you with your kids as you’re reading this? Make the next 5-minutes time they won’t soon forget. If you’re a teacher, like me, make the next 5-minutes of your lesson something they’ll go home and excitedly tell their parents about.

Apply the 5-minute mentality to everything you do.

Writing an email? Focus the next 5-minutes on creating the best email you’ve ever written. Meeting with a client? Listen hard for the next 5-minutes.

Allow yourself to set aside long-term thinking; go hard for the next 5-minutes. It will change your life.
